Daniel Radcliffe talks Harry Potter end, Japan fans, How to Succeed, NYC

Daniel Radcliffe chatted with Access Hollywood Live recently about his work in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and his involvement in the Harry Potter films, especially the most emphatic fans, and accepting the end of the series. Dan also commented on how much he loved currently living in New York City, and a rather awkward experience with actress Katie Holmes regarding a particular scene in How to Succeed. That can be viewed below.

“Particularly this last [Harry Potter] film, I’m so proud of the way we’ve gone out ‘cause I think it’s so much better than any of the other films made,” the actor told Billy, when asked about putting the finishing touches on the “Harry Potter” franchise.

When asked about being a global superstar in other countries and the reception he gets from “Potter” fans, he responded, “When I got to the airport in Japan at 13, there were 5,000 people screaming and waiting at arrivals… If I walk down the street there, there is just this kind of snowballing of people. I bumped into this girl in the corridor and said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry.’ And boom! [She] just fainted immediately.”

“I’ve been handed some very strange things. I’ve been given an Etch-A-Sketch, which was kind of awesome. That was a present from a fan I’d never been given before. And, I got told that I smelled good by three people last night,” Radcliffe joked.

“If I walk down the street there, there is this snowballing of people,” the 22-year-old explained. “I’ve only been there twice and it’s an amazing country and they are the most unbelievably supportive fans of ‘Potter,’ because when they embrace something, they embrace it as a nation.”

“I had my Beatles moment [there], ‘cause you know I’m not going to have this fame forever, this is going to be something I’ve got now and it’s going to go at some point… so you gotta enjoy this stuff while it happens,” he said with a smile.

The actor also told Billy about a certain performance one night where he incorporated a reference to Tom Cruise’s infamous couch jump on “Oprah,” after hearing that Tom’s wife – Katie Holmes – was in the audience to witness the act.

“I got very, very paranoid that night because she was in the audience and I did it and the audience reaction wasn’t nearly as much as it normally is and I was like, ‘Oh man, they all know she’s here’ and they’re like, ‘Wow, this is really awkward!’” he laughed. “But it was good.”
