Deathly Hallows 2 passes Sorcerer's Stone as top-grossing Harry Potter film in U.S.

The box office numbers for the weekend of July 29-31 are in, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has surpassed Sorcerer's Stone as becoming the highest-grossing Harry Potter film in the U.S. and Canada. The domestic take of Sorcerer's Stone after its theatrical run in 2001-2002 was an estimated $317.6 million; as of Sunday, July 31, 2011, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 brought in $318.6 after 17 days of release, with its numbers set to go higher as it continues its run.




For this weekend, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 came in fourth place in the domestic box office, bringing in an additionally $22 million dollars, and has well past the billion-dollar mark in takings worldwide - the ninth to do so all time.
